für Projektoren erweitert, was schliesslich dazu führte,
verkauft, was etwa soviel bedeutet wie "Wunderkästchen"

The French publisher "Maison de la Bonne Presse"
was founded 1870 in Paris by father Emmanuel d'Alzon. Like its name
suggests, the target was to transmit as "house of good news"
catholic ideas by newspapers and books. The company included also
new medias and so it became pioneer for the development of the early
cinema and later for phonographs. At turning century, they produced
Phonographs and cylinder. There is a catalogue from 1900 with some
religious songs and hundreds of recordings like dances, romances,
military music, and opera. In fact, it was more or less the same
repertoire like Pathé Frères.
In the beginning time of hear phonograph business,
the "Maison de la Bonne Presse" imported the "Type
B Eagle" by Columbia and sold it as "Boite aux secrets".
Later they produced with the model "Ideal" there own talking
machines.
Our phonograph is fitted with the no.2 reproducer
and Columbia’s ordinary "Graphophone" patent plate
on the mandrel. This model was produced only for export to France,
where it was fitted by a distributor like the "Maison de la
Bonne Presse" to a reversible lid, highly polished mahogany
cabinet. The phonograph was mounted to the underside of the lid.
Lifting the lid, flipping it upside down and seating it on top of
the open box prepared the machine for playing. A curved European
style nickeled brass "hunting horn" was placed on the
neck of the reproducer carriage. The low serial number 166 801 indicates
the production before 1900. On the lid there is the metallic plaque
with the Paris address of the "Maison de la Bonne Presse"
from this time.
