Die Deutsche Firma "Bing" aus Nürnberg war nach dem ersten Weltkrieg der grösste Spielzeughersteller der Welt. Im Sortiment führte man damals vor allem Blecheisenbahnen, aber auch verschiedene Kinder-Grammophone.

Das Modell "Pygmophone" besticht durch seine Einfachheit. Es gleicht eher einer Cake-Dose als einer Sprechmaschine. Der Motor ist eingepackt in eine quadratische Blechdose von 15 x 15 cm, der Plattenteller misst 12 cm, und der Blechtrichter ist 13 cm lang. Die originalen "Pygmo-Schallplatten" haben einen Durchmesser von 15 cm.

Vom "Pygmophone" gab es mehrere Varianten in verschiedenen Farben. Einige davon waren mit tanzenden Figuren verziert. Am weitesten verbreitet war wohl das Modell in Braun mit dem Dreieck-Muster.

After World War I, the German "Bing" company of Nurnberg was the most important toy producer on the planet. The "Pygmophone" is a well, but cheaply-made toy machine. This gramophone possess the functional simplicity of talking machines. Its traditional "cake-box shaped" design incorporates a 5 inches turntable and a 6 inches short straight tinny horn with a 3 inches mouth.

The motor is key-wound through a hole in the side of the decorated box into which all the parts can be packed for transport. The sound box is fitted by a metal diaphragm. The original "Pygmo-Records" measures 6".

There was some different versions of the "Pygmophone". The models differs in diverse colors, some of theme was decorated by dancing figures. One of the most popular was the brown version with the triangular design.
