Ab 1903 produzierte die Firma Pathé-Frères eine Serie von fünf verschiedenen Phonographen. Das einfachste und billigste Gerät dieser Reihe trug die Bezeichnung "Modèle No.0" und kostete damals nur gerade 22.50 Französische Francs. Für "Modèle No.4", den teuersten Apparat, musste man hingegen 175 Francs hinblättern. Dafür hatte dieses Gerät im Gegensatz zur billigen Ausführung ein schönes Gehäuse, konnte alle drei Handelsüblichen Walzen-Formate abspielen und hatte einen leistungsstarken Motor.

Der Pathé "Modèle No.0" besticht durch seine einfache Bauweise. Der Federmotor ist auf ein schlichtes Holzbrett geschraubt. Die Pathé Schalldose ist mit einem Kautschuk direkt am Aluminium-Trichter befestigt, der sich von einem Schwenkstab geführt um eine Achse dreht. Wegen der fehlenden Spindelführung kann man damit keine Aufnahmen machen. Auch das Abspielen ist nicht problemlos, denn bei der geringsten Unebenheit springt die Schalldose aus der Rille und rutscht mit kratzendem Geräusch über die Walze. Trotz seiner einfachen Bauweise strahlt dieser Phonograph eine elegante Ästhetik aus.

The Pathé Frères Company's 1903-1904 line of cylinder machines included this charming but unsophisticated "Modèle No.0". It was the cheapest phonograph in the range of five models and costs in the time only 22.50 French francs. The most expensive instrument, the "Modèle No.4" was sold for 175 French francs. In Contrast of the "Modèle No.0", the „Modèle No.4“ was the most sophisticated phonograph, ever produced by Pathé.

It is almost impossible to build simpler a phonograph then Pathé's "No.0". The spring-motor is screwed on a unsophisticated wooden plate and the aluminium horn is hold by a bar. The reproducer is fixed on the end of the horn by a piece of caoutchouk. Because the missing spindle screw there is not possible to do recordings with this phonograph and by reproducing cylinders, the stylus of the sound-box looses the sound-track by slightest unevenness of the cylinder.

Nevertheless this talking machine is a unique example of French aesthetic and elegance.
